This paper highlights the problems of investments in renewable energy from private investors in the European Union. The purpose of the work is to determine the specifics of investments and study the directions of investment with the identification of industries (segments). The tasks include the following: the rationale for the importance of private investment, the identification of types of investors and the dynamics of investments over the years, the analysis of policies to attract investment in the EU and emerging problems in the way of investors. Conclusions in the work are the following: acceleration of the dynamics of the implementation of renewable capacities, which is affected by the huge number of state norms. The dynamics of total investments will double by 2050, the share of private investments will also grow steadily thanks to new standards and an increase in projects. The main development segment will be small distribution capacities. Privileges and low risk levels will also play an important important role. For large-scale projects, a stable policy will be important. One of the main characteristics of the market will remain low risks, as well as the role of subsidies, discounts, and tax cuts through green bonds. Also tenders will be actively developed, which will positively affect the attraction of private capital.
