The subject of this research is Russian empire’s image, created by press in France and Great Britain in 1761-1763. Publications in periodicals are treated as a reflection of the interests of Western Europe’s public and its evaluation of news from Russia. Four periodicals - Gazette d’Amsterdam, Gazette de France, Gentleman’s Magazine and Annual Register - were employed as sources, each of them represents a specific type of press. The analysis of the publications takes into account the periodical’s structure. Other factors that could influence public opinion, such as time of information’s arrival and its source, tone of the publications, as well as cultural and political contexts, were also considered for a better understanding of reader’s perception.
