In this master's dissertation, the relationship between congruence and anxiety is investigated in a situation of uncertainty. Quantitative and qualitative research methods were applied: Spielberger's situational and personal anxiety questionnaire, V. Satir's congruence questionnaire, author's questionnaire for identifying congruence and incongruence, and a phenomenological semi-structured interview. The survey sample was 77 people. Respondents wrote in the author's questionnaire about their situation of uncertainty, in which they were at the time of filling out the questionnaire. As a result of the study, a correlation of congruence and anxiety was revealed, the correlation study showed a reverse significant relationship, that is: the higher the congruence, the lower the anxiety. This allows the author to assume that congruence can be a way of coping with anxiety and with the situation of uncertainty. The relationship of congruence and anxiety is expressed in all sorts of "experiences", which were identified as a result of phenomenological analysis: the attitude to ourselves, to the situation, to other people; awareness or unconsciousness of one's feelings and states; taking responsibility for one's feelings, state and experience, or being dependent on circumstances or other people. As a result of this work, theoretical and empirical notions of congruence have been confirmed, which helps a person to live in a situation of uncertainty with less anxiety and tension, moreover, gives confidence, a sense of control over the situation, and allows him to be himself and the creator of his own life as well. Keywords: congruence, anxiety, situation of uncertainty, person-centered approach, responsibility.
