The Role of International Organizations in Promoting Pension Reforms in the World

The need for pension reforms is nowadays urgent due to the economic and demographic changes of the last decades. At the same time we can observe the increasing power of international organizations to shape the way these reforms are conducted. This paper analyses actions undertaken by various international organizations that are connected with promoting pension reforms. Moreover, the author compares different approaches of international organizations to reforms and evaluate their efficiency. The research is based on studying official documents of international organizations, statistic data and materials from works of other scholars. This paper suggests that influence of international organizations in promoting pension reforms depends on the initial conditions of a country and specifics of each particular institution. This research might add to the body of research on the activities of international organizations and contribute to an understanding how the international society has been dealing with the problem of pension provision and pension reforms.
