In this paper, the scientific approaches to the notion of "Significant Other" will be analyzed and a transactional-analytical view on the formation of the personality in the relationship is disclosed. Based on the analysis of foreign and Russian studies of the image of a psychologist, a methodological problem of searching for an effective method of exteriorization of respondents' submissions will be revealed, an author's method proposed and the result of an empirical study described. The practical significance of the study is the ability to use its results in the process of training counseling psychologists and psychotherapists. Based on the views of potential customers, the current trends in the development of specialists will be substantiated and suggested. Similarly, the results of this study can be useful for developing new empirical methods for identifying the subject's views. The novelty and theoretical significance of this study is determined by the fact that for the first time: 1. The image of a psychologist is considered in the context of significant personal relationships; 2. The results are interpreted using the theory of personality, namely the functional model of ego states; 3. The concept of psychological projections, in particular the method of portrait elections, is used as the methodological basis; 4. We use a creatively modified marketing positioning model applied to psychological services. The problem of the study lies in the contradiction of views on the image of a psychologist in professional psychologists and their potential clients, as well as in the search for an effective method for explicating these views. goal - studying the specifics of preferences of potential therapists by potential clients.
