"Encyclopedia of Relative and Absolute Knowledge" by Bernard Werber as a New "French Encyclopedia"

ANNOTATION To the graduate work «"ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RELATIVE AND ABSOLUTE KNOWLEDGE" BY BERNARD WERBER AS A NEW "FRENCH ENCYCLOPEDIA"» Written by a student of the Faculty of Philology, National Research University "Higher School of Economics" Svetlana Smilyanskaya. The object of the study is the work of Bernard Werber in the context of the cultural heritage of French literature Encyclopedia, or a Systematic Dictionary of the Sciences, Arts, and Crafts" by D. Diderot and J. d’Alembert and "Encyclopedia of Relative and Absolute Knowledge" by B. Werber (ESRA). The aim of the study is to compare the encyclopedias for identify succession in Werber's work. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to solve the following tasks: 1. Form the creation myth of ESRA and compare it with the myth of Diderot’s Encyclopedia; 2. Identify similarities in the concept of authorship of encyclopedias; 3. Analyze the connection of encyclopedias to revolutions; 4. Describe the differences between ESRA and Diderot’s Encyclopedia; 5. Designate the influence of the modern context on the concept of the Werber's encyclopedia. Each chapter of the work reveals the tasks in detail. The graduate work is written on fifty-two pages and consists of an introduction, five chapters of the main part, a conclusion, a list of conditional abbreviations and terms, a bibliography containing twenty-two sources, and four annexes. The results of this study might be interesting to anyone who studies modern literary or is fond of B. Werber's works.
