The Use of Hedging in Psychological Counselling Discourse

For psychological counselling discourse, hedging can be considered a crucial strategy. Nevertheless, there is little research in this field. In this work, we analyzed the use of hedging in the transcribed protocols for therapeutic sessions that have become classic, namely 'The Gloria Sessions' with Carl Rogers, Albert Ellis, and Fritz Perls. The results of our research can be used by linguists studying discourse markers in professional discourse, as well as psychologists and therapists looking to develop their communicative competence.
