The Main Approaches to Assess the Quality of Life of the Population in Saint Petersburg

This study examines the main approaches to evaluation the quality of life of the population, used both in the Russian Federation and internationally. The problems in the development and in use of methodologies for evaluation the quality of life are shown. The analysis of several best-known methods for evaluation the quality of life in the regions of Russia, revealed their strengths and weaknesses. The author's methodology for evaluation the quality of life of the population is proposed and tested in practice on the basis of the conclusions obtained by a detailed examination of existing methods. Based on the use of the new methodology, a rating of regions on the quality of life was drawn up, conclusions were drawn and recommendations were made regarding St. Petersburg.
