Topology of Generic Determinantal Sets and Newton Polytopes

Abstract algebraic varieties are difficult to study, therefore, narrow classes of varieties such as complete intersections are often studied. The determinantal varieties are one of the broadest classes. In this paper we use convex and toric geometry, and also singularity theory to study the Euler characteristic of some generic determinantal sets.
