Possibility of Russian Banks to Support International Companies
Double degree programme in Economics of the NRU HSE and the University of London
In my work I will present the current situation of Russian banks abroad, as well as examine the factors that affect the expansion of companies and banks in general. My work consists of three main parts. In the first, I look at the views of various scientists who tried to explain what factors and how they affect the expansion of banks and companies. In the second part, I made a two-step analysis of factors (FDI, location, trade balance, migration) and their impact on the expansion of banks. The first step, I checked the existence of multicollinearity between the factors themselves, making sure that it was not there, I went to the second step and built regressions for each of the factors and checked my four hypotheses. Practically all the hypotheses were confirmed, but I also noticed that the factors can not be considered separately, because the problem of endogeneity arises. This is the difficulty in assessing the results, so I can say that the hypotheses are partially confirmed. In the third part, I decided to consider what kind of policy would be effective for supporting Russian banks abroad and found out that there are two methods which will be effective: state guarantees and lending.
