The Figure of the Female Detective Between East and West: from Victorian Novels to Russian Criminal Fiction

The following master thesis examines the development of the image of female detective in popular culture from its beginning in Victorian literature till contemporary representation in different TV-series. The key research question is the following: How is the image of female detective creating in the police crime drama? What is the difference between literary and cinematographic methods in the construction of these images? How does gender theories and development of new media influence on the transformation of studied heroes? Accordingly, the research objectives are following: the analyses of establishment and modification of the image of female detective in the context of police crime drama, studying the specificity of different mediums and detection of their perceptivity, the analyses of the contemporary TV crime dramas and represented there images of female detectives to estimate the main trends, which are used by the showrunners.
