The Integration of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) into the Academic Curriculum of Russian Universities: Designing Institutional Support

The purpose of the thesis is the development of methodological recommendations for the integration of the mass open online courses (MOOC) into the curricula of Russian universities. The concepts of blended learning, massive open online courses and distance learning development milestones are considered. Also, the reasons and difficulties of blended learning experience in higher education institutions (HEI) are examined in the research. The analysis Russian and foreign HEIs’ experience highlights the specific features and management mechanisms of using MOOCs in blended learning. As a result, methodological recommendations for the integration of MOOCs into the academic curricula of Russian universities were designed. These recommendations addresses such issues as models if MOOCs’ integration, monitoring the process and results of e-learning, MOOCs’ credit recognition, explanatory work with students so that they are clear about the opportunities of using MOOCs to build their individual curricula. Furthermore, a model of university regulations on the process of e-learning and MOOCs’ credit recognition.
