Abstract The master thesis describes the supervision practices on the bachelor and master level and problems that occur in the process of supervision, as a necessity for the development of a further qualification programme for the academic supervisors. The relevance of such a programme for solving of the highlighted problems is discussed. The aim of the thesis is an enhancement of the academic supervision practices in the European Humanities University (EHU), Lithuania. An exploratory research is devoted to the questions of a re-interpretation of the academic supervision practices in higher education institutions and to the analysis of a personal experience in the shaping of the competences of an academic supervisor of the faculty staff at the Department of Social Sciences, EHU. The research is based on the interviews with the academic supervisors and students of the EHU, expert interviews at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (Russian Federation), questionnaires, regulatory documents of an academic supervision at the EHU, and on the monitoring of the bachelor theses written in 2013-2017. The exploratory research resulted in a development of a project of a further qualification programme for the academic supervisors of the bachelor and master students at the EHU. The master thesis includes the literature overview that covers questions of the academic supervision theory and praxis, readiness of a faculty member for an academic supervision, competences, motivation and other. The thesis also describes methods implemented in an exploratory study and in a project and analyses the interview and questionnaires’ results.
