Evolution of Interview in "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" of the NBC Network from 2013 to 2017

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" is an American television comedy talk show, which has been broadcasted by the NBC television network since September 2003. This show has won 59 Emmy Awards and has a big success in its country of origin. Moreover, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show"; considers entertainment and covers political and social topics. It has a lot of competitors on American television such as late night talk shows. However, there are a few such talk shows in Russia and that is why studying a successful format in other country might be useful for Russian television development. In aim to concrete the research its goal is to to identify the main trends of the evolution of the characteristics of the genre of the interview in the program. The paper presents 35 episodes selected by the artificial week method. The technique is based on the principle of random selection and allowed to minimize the participation of the researcher in the formation of the sample. A random number table is used to select the week number for each day of the selected season. Work with documents, systematization, functional analysis, synthesis, content analysis, comparative analysis were also chosen to proved the analysis. The hypothesis of the work is that the greatest changes were made within mainly such characteristics of interviews as categories of quests and techniques of formulating questions.
