The Impact of Education and Employment Characteristics on the Gender Wage Gap
Economics and Statistics
(Bachelor’s programme)
2018
Nowadays, the problem of gender wage gap is mentioned in public more often than ever before. However, most of the current research on the Russian labor market was based on studying gender wage gap among the whole population, without considering the difference in individual characteristics that arise with the growth of income.

This study offers an overview of the factors that have impact on gender wage differences for certain levels of income and constructs quantitative models estimating these effects based on RLMS data. The models used in this study include random-effects models for panel data and quantile regressions and RIF regressions for cross-sectional data.

It is anticipated that personal characteristics and industry segregation contribute more to the gender wage gap among higher income individuals, while the employment characteristics having a greater effect for the lower income individuals.

The following sections are included in the work: introduction; literature review; methods used; anticipated results; conclusion.
