This project proposal is an attempt to review and explain the notion of performance. The central research questions could be framed as follows: what is the performance art and what are the main and the most famous art performances. To answer them I intend to assemble a visual book covering numerous art movements and artists. During the research it has emerged that the diversity of existing performances is very extensive: works based on choreography, costumes and music; scenography; autobiographical performances; feminist art and others. Among the main problems affected by artists, we can distinguish the following: sociopolitical, national, religious, moral, questions about life and death. Whereas the project is mainly comparative I have chosen to focus on similarities and differences in foreign and Russian art performances. Accordingly, I intend to offer a set of new criteria for analysis. It is contemplated that the results will provide an overview of one of the most important art movements of the 21st century. The main aim of my work is to create a visual book that can give an overview to the reader about such notions as performance and happening. One of the main tasks of my work is bringing the performance closer to the person who has little understanding of this form of art.
