The present study carries out an analysis and identifies multidirectional factors that affect the health of the people in Russian Federation. The evaluation was based on the database of the Federal State Statistics Service for 2000-2016. In the course of the study, an econometric model was constructed which was used to assess the influence of selected factors characterizing the quality of life in the regions on the sickness rate of the population. As a result, it was found that the high level of GDP, the availability of sports grounds and facilities, high average temperature in the month of June and the unemployment rate have a significant impact on the sickness rate. The higher these rates are, the fewer diseases are registered in the regions. Such factors as high level of alcohol consumption, crime, high hospital load (population per hospital bed), air emissions and discharges of pollutants into the water have a negative impact on the health indicators of the population. Based on the results obtained, measures were taken to reduce the sickness rate in the regions of the Russian Federation. Such measures include the increase of sports facilities and the promotion of healthy lifestyles, increase in the prices for alcohol products and measures taken towards reducing the environmental problems in the subjects of the Russian Federation.
