Problem of Repression in Works by Herbert Marcuse

H. Marcuse is a well-known german-american philosopher and sociologist, known as a member of Frankfurt school. He is known in Russia for his works "Eros and Civilisation", "One Dimensional Man" and "Reason and Revolution". The first two works describe society as a system of organised repression. Such vision brought worldwide fame to the author. Marcuse's approach to philosophy is often described as freud-marxist. To define, whether this statement is true within Marcuse's social theory is a problem that is intended to be solved by the research. The objective of this research is to systemise the views of H. Marcuse on repressive organisation of society and to analyse his approach to description of social reality. To solve the stated scientific problem, the following goals have to be reached: Systematisation of Marcuse's views on repressive organisation of society in his work "Eros and Civilisation" Analyses of Freud’s and Marx's influence on Marcuse's views in his work "One Dimensional Man" Systematisation of Marcuse's views on repressive organisation of society in his work "Eros and Civilisation" Analyses of Freud’s and Marx's influence on Marcuse's views in his work "One Dimensional Man" Current research is based on "Eros and Civilisation" and "One Dimensional Man" by H. Marcuse. The first book describes society from the primal period until the second half of 19h - early 20th centuries. "One Dimensional Man" focuses on the developed industrial society. Current research is based on general scientific methodology. The main method used - is analyses. Basic methodological principle is the objectivity principle.
