Water reserves are experiencing advancing human encroachment, causing concerns over their viability in the foreseeable future. The rapidly increasing demand for water resources driven by population growth, industrialization, and economic growth casts doubt on Italy’s ability to provide citizens with free access to fresh water. Water is necessary for maintaining human health, the agricultural sector and various other industries, let alone the improvement of the economic and political stability in the world. Italy owns a relatively small number of water resources and manages to effectively oversee them. The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of major water policy developments and examine the present situation of the water sector in the world and in the country of Italy.
