National Features of Computer Games Market of Contemporary China

Gaming industry is one of the most drastically developing fields of contemporary media sphere, where China’s games market is one of the most mature, complicated and institutionalized world game markets, which continues to intensively expand worldwide. Current research analyses China’s games market from economic, social and cultural standpoints. Analysis is based on theoretical approach, which was firstly used in the paper “Enmeshed in Games with the Government: Governmental Policies and the Development of the Chinese Online Game Industry” by Mirko Ernkvist and Patrik Ström. China’s state policies are classified according with three levels of state policy: state support for domestic developers, policies of information control and cultural nationalism. The results obtained from the research of specific features of Chinese games market are applied for Russia’s games industry. The research makes a list of proposals regarding the state support of the industry, which is the key factor of its successful development. Target audience of these proposals are Russian government and the actors related to gaming industry.
