«The Image of an Enemy» in Political Discourse on Social Networks

The research belongs to the studies in the sphere of construction “the image of an enemy” in political discourse on social networks. The topicality is explained by the fact that the large number of Russians consider that Russia has enemies. The objective of the paper was to create “enemy images ” on social networks. To reach the objective the tasks of determining functions of “the image of an enemy”, the peculiar properties of using it as a political instrument in the USSR and the causal relationship of actualization of this phenomenon in Russia were solved. In the practical part of the study the contexts and techniques of constructing “the images of enemies” in political discourse in the most popular social network in Russia “Vkontakte” were indentified and the temporary bursts of their mass retransmission by ordinary users were analyzed.
