The main interest and motivation to study this topic are to uncover the primary drivers of competition between private U.S. shale oil companies and the OPEC and understand the market drivers that each holds control and the eventual impact of their control on oil price. Object of this thesis is international companies’ activities in conditions of competition with cartel. In these terms factors, affecting these activities will be considered as key elements with volume of production as a main measurement of reaction on market deviations and market share as a measurement of efficiency. Subject of this thesis is a cartel price control, revealing cartel character of OPEC according to economic theories in order to define economic instruments that it uses to win market power. The goal is to investigate the impact of OPEC price control on the shale oil market, examining activities of private shale oil companies operating in the USA.
