The Role of the IMF in Overcoming the European Debt Crisis

The relevance of this research is due to the fact that nowadays the development of the debt crisis in the Eurozone is one of the most important problems in the spotlight of the entire world community. In this paper it is important to determine the causes and essence of the European debt crisis and the impact of the International Monetary Fund on its development, also to identify the causes and analyze the consequences of these events for the Eurozone countries and the world economy as a whole. Based on the purpose of the work, the author was faced with the tasks : to characterize the IMF and the debt crisis, to assess the role of the IMF in resolving the crisis and to develop recommendations for improving the IMF's activities in overcoming crises. To perform these tasks the author used the following research methods - comparative and structural analysis, historical and genetic method and forecasting method, economic, statistical analysis and cross-country comparison . Based on the results of the work the author analyzed and evaluated the IMF's role in overcoming the debt crisis and offered a number of recommendations for its more effective work.
