Annotation. Subject. Application of the BIS standards in the banking sector of Russia. Purpose. Determination of the impact of the BIS standards on the sustainability of the banking sector in Russia. The research methodology includes such general scientific methods as data analysis, regression and comparative analysis. Results. The present study demonstrates the positive impact of the quantitative requirements recommended by the BIS to ensure the stability of the development and functioning of the Russian banking sector. During the study the hypothesis that the implementation of the Basel III standards allows to reduce credit risks in the banking sector was confirmed. The hypothesis that the introduction of the Basel III norms negatively affects the operational results of banking institutions was not confirmed. A panel regression with fixed effects was made for this purpose. The model included more than 27,000 observations, which allowed to obtain results that are characterized by high accuracy. Conclusion. It is necessary to note the need to increase the level of involvement of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation in the development of the BIS standards. The Bank of Russia can increase the applicability of the BIS standards in domestic practice.
