The state investment policy is an important tool for the formation of the business climate and, as a consequence, economic growth. Preferential agreements (e.g. bilateral investment treaties and regional trade agreements) are also aspects of investment policy. Today, India is playing an increasingly important role in the global economy and is striving to increase the amount of attracted investments. Despite this, Indian preferential agreements in the field of investment are aimed only at protecting, but not promotion investments. Moreover, the texts of existing agreements need to be further developed because of certain inaccuracies and inconsistencies that have already led to India's losses. The work is divided into 3 chapters: theoretical justification of the factors influencing the attraction of investments, and consideration of the experience of analyzing the impact of bilateral investment treaties on the attracted FDI; review of trends in the global and Indian investment climate, as well as the main provisions of Indian preferential agreements in the field of investment; econometric modelling of the relationship between the effects of preferential agreements and the growth of FDI, as well as an empirical evaluation of attempts to establish a multilateral investment agreement, and India's position on ongoing initiatives. Keywords: India, FDI, bilateral investment treaties, investment climate
