The food sector is one of the most notable areas of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the ASEAN. Russia seeks to reduce the share of oil and oil products in exports. The aim of Russian import substitution policy is to boost Russian production of the commodity groups, from which the Russian economy is excessively dependent, primarily relevent to the agro-industrial complex (AIC). The observed increase in the production and export of Russian agricultural and food products directly correlates with the interests of the ASEAN countries, for which the problem of food security has traditionally been important.
