Enhancing the Involvement of Russian Companies in Automotive Industry Global Value Chains

The emergence of global value chains is one of the most significant trends in the modern world economy. The study of GVC in the automotive industry presents both scientific and practical interest. The goal of this research is to determine specifics of automotive industry global value chains and opportunities to enhance the involvement of Russian automakers in GVC. The research presents an analysis of global automotive market, highlights key features of global value chains in the automotive industry and best practices in GVC operation, provides key recommendations to enhance the involvement of Russian automakers in global value chains. Stimulative state policy in terms of reducing administrative barriers of the industry, lobbying the interests of domestic producers abroad and creating favourable conditions for joint R&D with foreign partners, along with the proactive position of the manufacturers themselves and the shift in focus of production to future technologies might enhance the involvement of domestic producers in global value chains. The results of the research can be used in practical terms by companies, as well as state authorities in order to develop measures of domestic automakers GVC involvement enhancement.
