Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2018

Global financial crisis and influences of post-modern society have resulted in a significant stagnation of ideas. Companies have a tendency to «play safe» in order to maintain their customer base and their profit levels - therefore they are reluctant to take creative risks. That’s why I decided to explore this problem and to demonstrate that for fashion the combination of art and commerce is entirely possible. Due to the existing conditions in our society that I mentioned earlier, not only companies see clothes as a means to earn money -but people themselves developed strictly pragmatic attitude towards apparel. Therefore, the goal of my project is to change people’s conviction that clothes is simply an instrument for protection from environment and to show that clothes is a form of expression, and fashion as a conceptual art can be inspiring and thought-provoking. Even though I realize that my project will not be enough to shift existing paradigm, I hope that it will start a productive conversation, which will result in brand new way of perceiving clothing and fashion. Also results of the project will include creating a new collection and a whole book, describing the process of making a collection from start (visual source) to finished looks on a fashion show. This book will also contain technical and artistic sketches, test samples of fabrics and other materials and photo-shoot.
