In the global food industry M&A have historically played a big role and it has largely impacted the way the industry looks today. This paper examines specific drivers of M&A in the food industry and particularly how Unilever has built and continue to build global leadership in ice cream category by acquiring market access, market share and capabilities around the globe. The paper also provides recommendations for new areas to explore through M&A activity to expand global presence and enable Unilever to meet new consumer demands.
