Improvement of the Stock Location Strategy of a Retail Chain Company (on the Example of X5 Retail Group)

Key words: strategy of commodity stock location, chain retailer strategic inventory management, strategic decision-making via analytic hierarchy process. The general purpose of the study is comprehensive analysis of the logistics system of a leading Russian FMCG chain retailer and perfection of the main flaws, including development of a stock location strategy. The study includes an analysis of the company’s financial, economic and logistics activity, an overview of theoretical sources and foreign companies experience in development of commodity stock location strategy and related topics, development and realization of the project procedure. According to the analysis, the main problem of the company’s logistics system is that it has no systematic commodity stock location strategy, that is suitable for the concept of warehouse network development. In this master’s thesis the group of major effects was reached. The formalized category goals for: • On-stock-availability increase for Fresh, Ultra Fresh and Vegetation were achieved; • Write-offs volume decrease for Fresh, Ultra Fresh and Vegetation were achieved; • Inventory turnover increase for Grocery, Drink, Deep Freeze and Non-Food were achieved; • The increase of the company’s NPS index from 60,1% to 61,3%. As a result of the project implementation, the Return on Equity index of X5 Retail Group has increased by 4,09%. Length of the master’s thesis: 156 pages, 23 pictures, 24 tables, list of literary sources – 46.
