The paper examines the problem of implementation of quality management system (QMS) and the certification: why some companies use generic algorithms, while others do not rely on such methods. Statistic data indicated that the certification of QMS has become a widespread practice in developed and developing countries, especially between manufacture enterprisers from Europe and East Asia. Literature review helped to reveal a popular classification of reasons for the certification – to study external and internal factors. Empirical analysis has shown the influence of both factor groups on a probability of the certification. Also it has highlighted similarities and differences of these effects depending on the membership in the European Union. The main source of information was “The Business Environment and Enterprise Performance Survey” (BEEPS), held in 2012, which covered more than 15 thousand companies from 30 countries. The paper consists of the following parts: the first chapter is devoted to examination of concepts of quality standards. Secondly, literature review and data analysis are presented. Finally, stages and results of the research are given.
