The purpose of this work is to study the influence of social, demographic and economic factors on prevalence of smoking. Two different approaches in the study are applied to investigating factors of tobacco use: the second chapter examines the impact of individual characteristics on the probability of smoking, and the third chapter analyzes the dependence between prevalence of smoking and macroeconomic indicators. The methodological framework of the study is based on statistical and econometric analysis of data. The main methods used include estimating binary choice models on panel data, cluster analysis, testing panel series for stationarity and cointegration with subsequent modeling of long-and short-term relationships.
