The Cult of the Imperial Family under Julio-Claudian Dynasty

In this work I will discuss the cult of the Imperial family during the reign of the Julio – Claudian dynasty. The aim of this work is to study the cult of the Emperors of the Julius-Claudian dynasty (Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero), the cult of their wives-Empresses and children. The object of the study is written sources. Sources belong to the Roman historiographical tradition. The study will focus on four main sources: Roman history" (Pωμαϊκη iστορiα) of Dio Cassius, The essay of Velleius Paterculus "Roman history" (Historiae Romanae), "The twelve Caesars" (De vita Caesarum) of Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus and "Annals" (Annales) of Cornelius Tacitus.The main subject of the work are methods of formation of the cult of Roman Emperors and the methods of deification of the relatives of the Emperor (spouses, mothers and children).The structure of the work consists of four chapters: 1 - "The origin of the cult of the emperor as the basis of the cult of the imperial family", 2 - "Development of the cult of the emperor as part of the cult of the imperial family under the successors of Augustus" , 3 - "Deification of women of the imperial family" and 4 - "The deification of children in the Julio-Claudian families".
