Numerous attempts have been made to tap into the representation of field of research and studies on world history in Russian Empire at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries. However, insufficient attention has been paid to the emergence of individual scholars in these universities and their scientific contribution. Through the appearance and development of intellectual history, increasing attention is given to questions about founders of world history studies. The present research focuses specifically on the founder of Spanish studies in Russia – V.K. Piskorsky, and it broadens our awareness of his political, social, and scientific activities. The key feature of the research is in the examined sources. The basis for this study are unpublished primary sources, in particular, lecture courses created by V.K. Piskorsky, documents of his academic activity and statutes drafts, representing scholars’ ideas of reforming education.
