Due to an economic rise of China and Singapore and the growing importance of economic power in an interconnected world, there is a growing concern over the way China uses its economy to achieve its national interests on the Singaporean direction of its foreign policy. Despite its overwhelming military potential, China still actively uses the tools of economic diplomacy, but their exact role in Chinese policy and strategy remains complex and undiscovered. In this paper, we will be using a wide range of methods, including theoretical analysis based on structural realism and theory of economic diplomacy, and more applied methods like content-analysis of Chinese foreign policy, quantitative analysis of economic data, and comparison of different tools of foreign policy China administers. The results may show the importance of economic diplomacy in modern Chinese policy towards Singapore and prove the interdependence between two countries. These conclusions may be of assistance for scholars who aim to advance the studies of international relations in the region, economic diplomacy or Chinese foreign policy. It may as well help businesses that operate in China or Singapore to better understand the economic and political environment of the region.
