Innovative pharmaceutical industry is nowadays the most promising segment as only companies of this segment generate new research and development projects, which are crucial for this industry. Whereas Big Pharma companies try to solve patent-cliff problem and deal with competition with generics by rebranding their blockbuster drugs, biotechnology companies create new drugs. Small biotechnology companies, which used to sell their developments to Big Pharma, have grown into huge multinational corporations, raising finance on stock exchange. The main purpose of this master thesis is to analyse orphan drug industry in the USA and Russia and to develop recommendations for Russian biotechnology company "Nanolek", which is the pioneer of Russian orphan drug market. Several research methods are applied in master thesis: case analysis and semi-structured interview with industry experts. Interview method is the only way to research Russian orphan drugs industry and business-model of Russian biotechnology company as this industry is quite closed.
