Family Violence and Crime

In social values hierarchy the institution of family occupies the first place, because the family is the basis of every social institution. However, recent years’ criminal statistics show a trend of rapid increase in number of violent crimes committed against family members. The purpose of this scholarly paper is to study the nature of family violence as one of the main problems of the Russian social state, analyze the causal complex of this phenomenon and develop an effective set of measures aimed at reducing family-violent crimes. The paper is based on analysis of criminological and criminal scholarly literature, thus, main methods of the research will be logical and comparative-historical methods, methods of deduction, induction, analysis, and synthesis. This research summarizes the prevalence rates and examines reasons for the high rates of family violent crimes, with emphasis on the characteristics of the family as a social institution.
