Nowadays more and more Muslims identify themselves as Sufis or Salafis. Despite the fact that both schools refer to the same sources (the Quran and Sunna), these two branches of Sunni Islam have serious dissension in the sphere of ideology, which leads to aggressive debates, terrorist acts and military conflicts. The present research aims to describe main disagreements between Sufi and Salafi scholars in matters of Islamic belief system (aqida) and law (fikh) and to identify key reasons for them. In order to get the needed information on the topic from theological studies we will use textual analysis. Afterwards, the synthesis method will be conducted to find out, what arguments the two groups use to prove their principles. Finally, we will make comparison between their opinions to identify reasons for the conflict. We expect that the current study will make contribution to advancing existing knowledge on the problem mentioned above.
