The era of new Chinese literature began in the late 70s of the last century, since the end of Cultural Revolution. It can be said that time was the period of the revival of Chinese literature, which came to replace the period of longstanding repression of writers and high politicization in the art. The favorable climate of society democratization has greatly contributed to the development of the diversity of genres, and since the early 1980s such literary trends as postmodernism, neo-realism, avant-garde and many others have appeared in China. The purpose of this work is to identify the main trends in the development of modern Chinese literature and the features of its problems by analyzing works of both well-known writers and young authors. To achieve this goal, some short stories from three collections, including fiction of the period from 90th to present, were analyzed in the paper. When choosing a literature material, the selection criteria were the brightness of the characters and the reflection of social problems, as well as the authors' belonging to the last three generations of writers. During the analysis it was revealed that in many works there is the synthesis of such trends as modernism and neo-realism. This is confirmed by the fact that current problems of society and life of ordinary people, as well as psychology and human consciousness are simultaneously reflected in the prose. Moreover, one of the main trends in Chinese literature development in recent years also includes the increasingly growing role of contemporary women's fiction, which is promoted by the spread of online literature. One of the vivid examples of modern female prose is the novel of Yang Jiang “We are three”, which is not currently translated into Russian. Therefore, the novelty of this work is that it provides an analysis of the story, as well as the translation of the excerpt, in order to illustrate characteristic features of modern Chinese literature on a concrete example.
