Intertemporal Preferences as a Factor of Leading Healthy Lifestyle

The following paper contains 64 pages, consists of 2 chapters describing the problem of the study and presenting the literature overview on the topic as well as the methodology of the study. The paper also contains a chapter with a thorough description of the empirical part of the research. This work has 16 tables, 10 graphs, and 13 appendices. The focus of the research was on healthy lifestyle and the factors influencing decision making on the actions that an individual does connected to health. The study highlights intertemporal preferences and its role in health capital as well as social factors of leading the healthy lifestyle. Ideas from both Russian and foreign literature are presented in the overview part. The empirical part contains the results of a public survey conducted among Russian students and statistical and regression analysis. Main findings are in the fact that the rate of time preferences has no significant influence on health capital, but social capital factors, on the contrary, do affect decision making in health sphere. This paper might be of an interest for the scholars studying health as well as for the employed in the social sphere - for developing more effective ways of promoting and spreading the message about the healthcare importance on an individual level.
