Application of Blockchain Technology for Insurance

This work is dedicated to the topic of the application of blockchain technology for insurance. The research area is limited to processes of auto insurance. The purpose of the study is to define potential advantages of the application of blockchain technology for auto insurance and to identify limits of blockchain implementation. The first part of the study contains a literature review on an auto insurance market, blockchain technology and smart-contracts, possibilities of blockchain application for car insurance market and cases of the technology implementation inside car insurance processes. The second part of the paper contains a methodology description for estimation of blockchain implementation and for limits identification of this implementation. Possible opportunities and risks are also analyzed in this chapter. In the last third part the AS-IS and TO-BE business processes of auto insurance are modelled using an example of the company ‘Rosgosstrakh’. Afterwards an analysis of the effectiveness of blockchain implementation is conducted based on the models and a conclusion about limits of blockchain application is made.
