The present paper is devoted to the topical problem of studying the dynamics of social networks. An overview of some theoretical aspects is presented, including the definition of a social network from two different points of view and some other basic definitions for studying the dynamics. Then, two types of models for analyzing the dynamics of social networks are described: stochastic actor-oriented models (SAOM), and temporal exponential random graph models (TERGM). In the last part of the paper, an example of using TERGM on a test dataset in R statistical computing environment is considered. The results of the work might be interesting to researchers in the field of social network analysis.
