Policy Framework for Supporting Industrial Design in Russia

The master thesis provides an overview of the design role in the economic and innovative developed emphasizing the role of industrial design, which plays an important role in shaping the demand for goods both in the domestic and foreign markets. Leading global manufacturers use design as a tool for business growth and hold leading positions against the global competition, which cannot be stated as for Russia. The main goal of the given research work is to identify key factors that currently influence the development of industrial design sector in Russia. In-depth interviews approach was chosen to gain a detailed understanding of current state of industrial design sector in Russia and its key features. As a result of conducted interviews with representatives of Russian industrial design sector, key factors were distinguished in addition to the analysis of current government support measures and initiatives in this field. The master thesis ends with policy recommendations to be taken into account for future policies and normative documents of the Russian government concerning the industrial design field.
