Tracking the State of the Art of Virtual Reality: Defining Technological Possibilities

The paper analyzes current state of the art of virtual reality applications and future technological possibilities in educational field based on qualitative analysis of relevant literature, conducted interviews, and extraction of valuable insights from a number of case studies. In this study the phenomena of virtual reality is regarded through 3 dimensions: science, technology and innovation. The nexus of science (particularly neuroscience) and VR is inevitable as it stands for determining the duration of technology usage and plausibility enhancement. Technological aspect stands for application of gained from neuroscience field knowledge in development both hardware and software for VR. And innovation aspect underlies the focal point of turning VR technology into a commercial advantage which led to wide usage of new business model – software as a service. The work can be considered by educators, VR developers and investors as a theoretical guideline of interlinking fundamentals of neuroscience and VR technology shaping the future of education system. The outcome may contain valuable information and can be a starting point for further researches. The conceptual framework presented in this study is a starting point for further research.
