Concentration of Pharmaceutical Sector in Russian Federation

Pharmaceutical industry happens to be one of the most concentrated industries in Russia, and certain pharmaceutical companies are often named as potential companies for clustering. Due to initiating of strategy Pharma-2020, the field is under the spotlight and a lot of attention is paid to development of cluster formations for building competitive product lines, performing on the domestic pharma market. The following study is conducted to investigate the concentration of pharmaceutical industry in Russian Federation from the location perspective via analyzing the structure and distribution of companies included into pharmaceutical innovative clusters. The results highlight that concentration of the pharma industry is not taken a full advantage by Russian pharmaceutical cluster formations in terms of participant structure. However, companies included into the same clusters are not dispersed over the country which increases the chance of building strong communication inside clusters. Furthermore, the analysis provides the reader with the insights regarding Russian clusters which can be used for improvement of cluster formations in the future.
