The Phenomenon of Hackathon: Motives, Methods and Results of the Participants
Cultural Studies
(Bachelor’s programme)
8
2018
The technologization of society inevitably leads to changes in the interaction between its members, and, in particular, to the emergence of new formats of collective activity, such as hackathon. Due to the increasing interest in this event, the work aimed at studying it seems relevant to us. The main idea of this work is to achieve this goal, namely: to identify the main features and properties of hackathons as a separate type of "case-events", including the definition of motives, methods and results of participants. The structure of this work consists of two parts: theoretical, containing the definition and history of the concept of "hackathon", the characteristic features of this event, as well as features of hackathons in Russia, and practical (field research), containing the results of interviews with participants of hackathons. As a result of this research, we are going to reveal the meaning of the hackathon in the concept of its participants, what, in their opinion, are the main features of the hackathon and, most importantly, how they are motivated to participate in the hackathon.
