Cinema as an Instrument of Symbolic Politics In Russian in 2000-2017 (the case of the Historical Memory’s Formation)
Politics and Governance
(Master’s programme)
2018
Symbolic politics is based on the use of the symbolic or aesthetic resources, which are often used to legitimize existing political regime and create a certain image of elite. The use of historical memory in symbolic politics supposes the selection of facts that seem to be the most important, the most essential for understanding the present and prospects for the future development of society. One of the most effective ways to actualize the existing public images of the past is the cinema. It seems that the analysis of historical cash films will allow to identify and classify the plot repertoire and the level of acceptance or rejection of these images in the communicative space. It will also help to find out how actual political situation affects their formation.
