Legal Political Science as a New Interdisciplinary Research Field the Dynamics and Problems of Development in Modern Russia
Politics and Governance
(Master’s programme)
2018
Graduation qualification work is devoted to the study of the institutionalization of legal political science as an interdisciplinary scientific direction. The author explores doctrinal approaches to the content of interdisciplinarity. The role of the academic community in public policy has been defined, the interrelations of interdisciplinary research and public policy have been revealed. The author notes that conceptualization and operationalization of interdisciplinarity in the social sciences have not been sufficiently developed. The distinction between definitions and research practices entails fundamental methodological problems that make it difficult to formulate an integrated strategy of interdisciplinarity. The question of interdisciplinary interaction of political science and jurisprudence is important and practically unexplored in doctrine. Based on the analysis of theoretical and empirical data, the author forms the supposed subject field of legal political science as an interdisciplinary scientific direction. To identify the factors influencing the institutionalization of legal political science / political science of law, the author conducted the qualitative research, the empirical basis of which was the materials of semi-structured interviews and the data of included observation. The author concludes, in spite of the fact that at the present time legal political science is not institutionalized in a scientific discipline, the prospects for its development should not be ruled out. The influence on the development of legal political science as a potential interdisciplinary scientific direction is provided by the categories of factors identified in the research: institutional, personal, traditions, political, financial, conceptual and methodological. Prospects for the development of legal political science depend on the success of the stages of its institutionalization, taking into account the above-mentioned factors.
