Over the recent years many cultural historians have focused upon “contemporary collective memory” basing on the original theories of sociologist Maurice Halbwachs. Taking into consideration the recent political situation they connect all world-wide happening events with the conception of collective memory. However, no one points to the link between the actual events, presentation and perception of events and memories and the way the media influences them. This study claims to find out the most common references to the recent political events related to the Russian Federation which certainly construct the national collective memory and then to compare the way they are represented in different Russian contemporary newspapers during the period from 2014 till 2017 to depict the strong media impact on the perception of political facts and to understand the position of the Russian Federation in the historical and political narration.
