Psychoanalytic Therapy of Schizophrenia and Schizoid Personality Disorder

Mental disorders compile a great part of disorders worldwide. People diagnosed with schizophrenia make up 1% of whole population, with schizoid personality disorder about 2-4%. Both diseases are destructive and require time and devotion to be treated successfully. Originally, pharmacotherapy is used to treat any mental disorders. However, other therapies, such as, psychotherapy is used alongside. For a long time psychoanalytical treatment was regarded as useless and insufficient. Unusual structure of the patient makes it difficult to use classic technics. Nevertheless, psychoanalytical therapy of schizophrenics and schizoid patients is gaining more and more recognition. This work starts with history remarks and a description of people diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoid personality disorder. After setting the scene, various therapies such as: pharmacotherapy, family therapy is observed along side with psychoanalytical therapy. Theoretic material is corroborated with practical illustrations to set a better understanding of the problem.
